Dan Nguyet (Moon-shaped Lute)

The Dan Nguyet is a two-stringed ethnic Vietnamese instrument made of light, soft wood. With a range of over two octaves, it is used to accompany singers or as part of stage and ceremonial orchestras, and as a solo instrument in its own right.

Though it is similar in appearance to other Asian lutes (for example the Japanese gekkin or the Chinese yue qin), it has a much longer neck and a different style of performance.
